What feel sounds like

Ask a golfer to describe a putter's feel and you'll get words like soft, firm, dead, hot, clicky. Ask them to describe it with earplugs in and something interesting happens: the vocabulary shifts. That's suggestive that some of what the hands supposedly feel, the ears are also reporting — though we haven't run that comparison ourselves yet.

The physics is suggestive here. Contact between ball and face is understood to last on the order of half a millisecond. Impact sound is one important contributor to perceived feel and is a variable OURO plans to study.

Design implication

Impact sound is a design variable OURO plans to measure during prototype development. OURO is developing a controlled acoustic test method for future prototype comparisons; specifics of that method will be published once established.

Where this goes

Acoustic capture starts when the first 001 billets come off the machine. Measured signatures will be published here and in the testing section of the 001 page as they become available.
